Madeleine Shaw Q&A

Madeleine Shaw is a lifestyle blogger, focusing on fitness and creating delicious recipes free from gluten, diary, additives and refined sugars. After the success of her first book ‘Get The Glow’ which shows how eating well can ' easily become a way of life, resulting in the hottest, healthiest and happiest you '. She went on to release her second recipe book 'Ready, Steady, Glow' which she is very busy promoting as we speak.

We visited the lovely Madeleine at her home a few weeks ago to treat her to a luxurious manicure, offering the Evo range as a manicure in keeping with her inspiring health philosophy.

Evo’s Base is Oxygenating and infused with Vitamin A & E the perfect product for a client who looks for the ultimate in nail health care.

As Madeleine keeps her nails short due to her busy work schedule she opted for Rose, a natural pink by Evo. Her nails looked ultra glossy ready for upcoming book signings, food events and holidays - Check out her latest Vlog in Berlin with her pretty pink nails below.

We asked Madeleine a few quick questions about how she keeps her hands healthy on a daily basis:

  • Tell us a little bit about yourself and what has inspired you to pursue a lifestyle & career in the health industry?

I'm Madeleine. I'm a nutritional health coach, yoga teacher, best selling food author and app creator. When I moved to Australia at 18 I had a terrible diet.

I used to eat what I thought was healthy...so my lunch would be some rice cakes and a diet coke. I started working in an Organic Cafe in Bondi and began educating myself about food. I learnt what to eat, how to cook it, and how to prepare it before I decided to go one step further and study to be a Nutritional Health Coach with IIN. I moved back to the UK and I haven’t stopped!

  • With the amount of cooking and food preparation you do, do you have any tips on how to keep your hands & nails from drying out?

I actually find it difficult to wear a lot of nail varnish because I do so much cooking and washing up that the varnish tends to chip and peel off very easily. I like using a cuticle oil, and even coconut oil can be good for this. I also like using eco friendly washing up liquid that does the job but isn't as harsh as normal washing up liquid on your nails and skin.

  • Do you have any health routines to keep your hands healthy?

One of my rituals is I put on hand cream before I go to bed every single day. I can't go to sleep without doing it now!

  • Food Fact! Are there any foods that promote natural nail health?

Protein! Protein is essential for keratin production which helps keep hair and nails healthy. You can get this from meat and eggs, or if you're vegan Almonds contain protein and magnesium which is good for nail health. If you have vertical ridges in your nails, this might mean you don't consume enough magnesium so eat lots of leafy greens, cacao nibs or almonds.

  • How have you found the Bio Sculpture manicure and What are your top 3 nail shade choices for Spring/Summer?

So far it's been really great and hasn't chipped! (one week in) And I think it would have to be Nudes, a coral and I can't go without a dark purple shade (even if it's not very summery)!
